Children and Young People

Anyone who accepts the challenge of volunteering with children will find the experience not only rewarding and useful, but also fun! We have plenty of volunteering opportunities to work with children and young people.

These opportunities involve promoting rights and improving the quality for living for children. It also helps to inspire and support the personal development of young people.

Volunteering offers the opportunity to help a community, assist on a project, learn new skills and meet new people. We offer a variety of opportunities which will give you the chance to benefit from volunteering in your local community.

These could be anything, from painting murals, to creating content for the social media of a charity, working on arts projects, or obtaining a greater understanding of crime prevention in your area. Working in community volunteering gives you a feeling of civic and social responsibility.

Disability and Health

We also have opportunities to assist people living with a disability or mental health problem, and help to deliver high-quality, community-based services around Buckinghamshire. Elderly People

You have the opportunity to assist elderly people by visiting them in their houses or in the care centre. Having regular conversations and listening to their stories, you can give them support and help with activities. This can really make a difference in someone’s life!

With climate change the emerging issue of our time, environmental volunteering is always worthwhile. You can volunteer and support us with the Green Impact project and get involved with our green initiatives throughout both campuses. We have a wide range of volunteering opportunities, both working in the countryside as well as in more built up areas.

Marketing and Communications

There are volunteering opportunities that will help to expand your marketing skills and experience. From supporting a local charity in promoting themselves, to assisting in the publication of promotional materials, the management of social media, and boosting donations, sales and engagement.

Sports and Recreation

There are fantastic opportunities to support young people in a variety of sports and recreational activities. From coaching to helping out at a variety of exciting events.

Your own idea

Do you have a great idea that could benefit other people? Could you create your own community project? You don’t need a fully formed project, just an idea and the commitment to making something happen. The first step is to email volunteering@bucks.ac.uk to tell us about your project. We will then be in touch to help you take it forward.

Student Volunteer Week

Every year, Bucks Students' Union takes part in Student Volunteer Week. Next years dates coming soon!

Keep an eye out for our exciting plans coming soon!

We have plenty of volunteering opportunities for students over the summer period.

The summer break is a fantastic opportunity to put your knowledge to use, build and develop skills and give something back to the community. The time off can be a great chance to try something new or get a feel for the industry you’d like to work in.

If you’re after a short term opportunity, long term opportunity, placement or internship in the charity and voluntary sector look no further! We have something for everyone so please let us know!

Alternatively, if you have gone back to your local area for the summer and you’re looking for volunteering opportunities away from High Wycombe, please contact us and we can help you to look for these too!

If you need any guidance, support or advice about these roles, or about volunteering in general, please email volunteering@bucks.ac.uk
