Have you yourself some big goals or target to achieve this year? Are you looking to get motivated and ambitious for 2018? We are hosting FREE psychology workshops to help you achieve your goals and understand the psychology behind motivation and lasting change. Whether you're looking to get that 1st this year, you want to run a marathon or you'd just like to find out more about how to motivate yourself and make it last this is the workshop for you! 

There will be four sessions taking place on Tuesday 23rd Jan, Tuesday 30th Jan, Tuesday 6th Feband Tuesday 13th Feb! 

Session 1: Identifying what you want to achieve: Motivation and inspiration

This first session begins by orienting students towards what they are looking to change and achieve and connecting to the underlying values. It involves developing inspiration, learning how to get motivated and starting to build self-belief.

  • Looking at theories of motivation
  • Identifying values: What do you care about?
  • Identifying personal aspirations: How will this improve your life?
  • Self-inspiration (e.g. author your own future, inspirational imagery, pick a role model)
  • Strengths (e.g. writing exercise on your strengths and how you are going to use them)

Session 2: Behaviour change: Goals and making changes

The second session will discuss the science behind successful and sustainable behaviour change. This will be followed by an evidence- and experience-based method for goal-setting and developing action plans, which tap into motivation.

  • Behaviour change science
  • Setting goals and identifying necessary actions (e.g. draw it/design it and make it attractive)
  • ACT matrix (psychological technique to support goal-setting and behaviour change)
  • Performance profiling

Session 3: Building momentum

The third session focuses on reinforcing what the students have learnt and building on anything they have started doing already. It will include techniques for becoming more self-aware, identifying relevant patterns of thoughts/behaviours and looking at how to overcome barriers.

  • Imagery for reinforcing positive actions
  • Techniques for better decisions (e.g. self-awareness, mindfulness tasks)
  • Check-in and troubleshooting goals
  • Barriers to positive actions

Session 4: Troubleshooting

This final session will be for troubleshooting any issues, looking at how to progress and developing a growth mind-set (i.e. optimism for the future and confidence that their progress will be continued).

  • Building on progress so far (i.e. how to keep building)
  • What to do when you stall in making changes
  • Recording progress and using it as motivation
  • Growth mind-set (i.e. your belief in your ability to change, improve and flourish – optimism)
