We’re bringing the heat to Shutdown as Afro B takes over on 17th April. Known for global hits like Drogba (Joanna), Shisha and Amina, Afro B blends Afrobeats, dancehall and international sounds into pure dancefloor energy.

Expect big anthems, infectious rhythms and non-stop vibes as he brings his signature sound to The Venue. This is set to be one of the biggest Shutdowns yet.

Union Council is open to all students to attend and participate in as the highest form of representation at the Students’ Union. The Council is a platform that informs students about the changes to policies within the Union, and the opportunity to vote on University-wide issues and directs our lobbying approach.

The Athletic Union Awards Dinner is the most special night of the Bucks Sporting calendar and gives us a great opportunity to come together and celebrate both team and individual accomplishments throughout the past season.

The evening will see awards given out in the below categories. The ticket includes an after dinner speaker, a free drink and a 2-course meal. Please join us in celebrating what will be a great night.

RAG Contributor of the Year

An award to recognise the club/individual who has gone above and beyond and involved all their members in fundraising for our two RAG charities.

An award to celebrate an individual's notable improvement throughout the year, attendance and attitude for all training and matches will be taken into account. Going the extra mile outside of compulsory training to improve themselves as much as possible.

We’re delighted to announce the next event in our Inaugural Lecture Series, featuring Professor Nela Milic, Professor of Arts Practice, who will present her lecture Mapping Memory with Participatory Art Practices.

This lecture will explore Professor Milic’s practice-based research approach to memory, examining how both personal and collective memories shape our everyday lives and identities.

Through examples from her artistic practice, Nela will demonstrate how participatory and multimedia art methods help people remember, recollect and reflect on their past. Her work engages deeply with themes of memory, trauma, placemaking and belonging, particularly in contexts where identity is shaped by marginalisation or living on the edges of dominant cultural narratives.

The lecture will also highlight her auto-ethnographic research, showing how it expands the boundaries of visual culture, feminist practice and critical studies, and why these approaches are essential to understanding how communities form and sustain themselves.

By the end of the session, attendees will gain fresh insights into how art practice can illuminate complex social themes such as identity, participation, archives and collective memory.

Professor Milic’s research focuses on the intersection of time and space, leading to numerous practice-based, interdisciplinary projects exploring memory, archives, activism, placemaking, participation and East European art. Her work has been presented in major international contexts, including the Olympic Stadium in London and the Venice Biennale, where she contributed to Vlatka Horvat’s project By the Means at Hand for the Croatian Pavilion in 2024.

Her work is also held in the collection of Belgrade’s Cultural Centre in Serbia, and she has delivered projects for organisations including the Royal Opera House, Barbican, Arts Council England, John Lewis, Al Jazeera, Campbell Works, the Oxo Tower, LIFT, the London Film Festival and the Refugees and the Arts Initiative. She is a recipient of the European Cultural Foundation Artistic Grant for the project Wedding Bellas and received the Southwark Community Arts Award for Here Comes Everybody in 2015.

In 2009, Stephen Hawking hosted a time travellers' party. No one came. If we can’t outdo Hawking, we can at least have more fun!

So, come along to a Time Traveller's Party at Broadway Cinema. Past, present and future attendees are welcome! No prior knowledge, experience, or flux capacitors required.

Through group discussions, playful thought experiments and perhaps the odd time-themed game, we'll explore how time travel is portrayed in film, as it fractures, pauses, loops, and bumps into itself on the way back around.

We will watch short clips from a varied selection of films, ranging from the joyfully silly to the mildly mind-bending. Expect a few laughs, and the occasional head-scratch, as we look at how these stories shift the way we think about memory, choice and possibility.

What's Your Blood Type

‘What’s Your Blood Type’ is an innovative marketing initiative where Staff and students can find out their likely blood type.

A quick finger prick test allows us to provide a tailored message about their likely blood type, why it’s useful and how often we’d like them to donate. This activity is especially important to identify priority and rare blood types that are more common in Black and ethnic minority communities. We will then book an appointment for the participant to donate blood for the first time.

Why does blood type matter?

Some blood types are needed more than others. By more people knowing their blood type, we can make sure people in need have the right blood at the right time.

We’re asking people who have never donated before to find out their type by giving blood.

We need new blood donors from all backgrounds to ensure there is the right blood available for patients who need it.

We need:

4,300 blood donations every day on average to meet the needs of our hospitals
over 140,000 people to donate blood for the first time this year
12,000 new Black heritage donors, to meet the growing demand for ethnically matched blood for sickle cell patients who need regular transfusions to stay alive
more young people aged 17-35 to donate, to ensure we have enough blood for the future

The Ramblin’ Roots Revue is back for 10^th year!

The Ramblin’ Roots Revue 2026 – 10/11/12th April 2026

A three-day celebration of cosmic americana, alt-country, folk and roots music.

Held at Bucks Students’ Unions award winning venue,

High Wycombe, Bucks. HP11 2JZ

In association with Clubhouse Records and Inside Out Talent The Ramblin’ Roots Revue has become for many one of the UK’s most eagerly anticipated and best loved weekends of cosmic americana, alt-country, folk and roots in the annual musical calendar.

Early bird tickets flew out. Tier One tickets are now 90% sold out.

“It’s brilliant to be able to announce the line-up for the next Ramblin’ Roots Revue, we have been blown away by the response to the early-bird tickets! We’re starting to see attendances surpass those we experienced pre-pandemic, and we are incredibly grateful for the loyal support we receive. It’s a become a bit of a community, it’s such a great weekend and we’re really excited by this year’s plans!”

Once again, the venue will be offering an extensive range of reasonably priced, guest ales, artisan whiskies and small batch gin, all accompanied by some great food trucks across the weekend. Expect incredible live music with over 30 acts performing over 3 days, late night jams, after parties with specially selected DJs, a pop-up record store and fantastic community feel as you’re surrounded by genuine music lovers and like-minded souls.

The Clubhouse All-Stars tribute to one of our favourite artists, Neil Young (& Crazy Horse), closing out the Saturday night of the revue, with a host of guest singers taking the stage to honour the great man in the year of his 80^th birthday.

The Ramblin’ Roots Revue is all held in Bucks Students’ Union’s award-winning venue with a reputation for exceptional value. The venue has undergone significant refurbishment in the last 12 months and is the holder of the “Best Bar None” accreditation for customer service and corporate social responsibility and has previously been recognised as promoting the leading live music provision in UK Higher Education. And to top it off all acts on the two main stages are programmed so you needn’t miss a single note!

Throughout the weekend you can be assured of staying warm and dry, with feet on firm ground and never further than 20m from key facilities including the stages, bar or BBQ! There’s free parking on site and leading hotel chains are literally just across the road.

After the early-bird tickets sold out in record time, the last few Tier One Full Weekend Tickets are available now at £70, before Tier Two at £80 go on sale. Day tickets will be available later in February.

Sunday 12^th April (11am – 11pm)

These sessions will be based online on Wednesdays from 1:00 pm till 2:00 pm on Microsoft Teams. Sessions will consist of exploration of the weekly themes, interactive discussions of coping techniques and different well-being activities. Feel free to choose any number of sessions that interest you. We have various groups with unique themes, and you can attend as many or as few as you wish!
