We'll meet at Arboretum for a Bucks Nottingham social! Feel free to bring your lunch, but there will be snacks and small activities available to enjoy the day and fresh air

For FREE you will be given two games of fun bowling at a time that suits you!

Join us for our May Union Council.

Union Council is open to all students to attend and participate in as the highest form of representation at the Students’ Union. The Council is a platform that informs students about the changes to policies within the Union, and the opportunity to vote on University-wide issues and directs our lobbying approach.

Our four Full Time Elected Officers provide a monthly update on what they have been doing to improve the student experience based off your feedback and experiences. As well as getting your fresh ideas or concerns, as well as hearing everything you want from the union, and how we can improve your student experience.We will also be discussing the most important topics and areas you want us to focus on for the next few months, and how we can support you throughout the year.

Every council is themed after a topic. This month we are focusing on Money and Budgeting with a session from our Advice Centre.

Free refreshments are provided at every meeting including Domino's pizza, as well as a giveaway for everyone who attended, either in person or online, So not only can you have a major input on the student experience, but you can also grab yourself some free pizza in the process - what's not to love?

Join us on Thursday 25 February from 5-7pm in four our Full Time Officer question time (hustings). This is your opportunity to ask the candidates for all four full-time Elected Officer positions about what they will do for you, as BNU students, if they are successfully elected in the #BSUElections in shaping and influencing the academic and social life of students in pursuit of the Union’s mission to ‘Make Life Better for Students at Bucks.’ As a reminder, the four roles include:

President who is the principal officer of the Union and is responsible for setting the political direction of the Union and communicating with all stakeholders.
Vice President Education and Welfare who is responsible for improving the educational and welfare experience of our members whilst they're studying at Buckinghamshire New University.
Vice President Student Affairs and Campus Experience who is responsible for the educational, wellbeing, and co-curricular experience of our members studying outside of the High Wycombe campus.
Vice President Achievement and Belonging who is responsible for the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion work, Sustainability and Green initiatives and the Growth and Development of student-led communities to enhance personal development.

At the end of the session, your groups drawings will be pieced together, and shown to the rest of the workshop, hopefully resulting in some fun and unique creations.

The event will be run by Nottingham local artist James Marshall, alongside The Drawing Room Gallery and The Hidden Brew Coffee Shop.

Why do we need you to give blood?

We need new blood donors from all backgrounds to ensure there is the right blood available for patients who need it.

We need:

4,300 blood donations every day on average to meet the needs of our hospitals
over 140,000 people to donate blood for the first time this year
12,000 new Black heritage donors, to meet the growing demand for ethnically matched blood for sickle cell patients who need regular transfusions to stay alive
more young people aged 17-35 to donate, to ensure we have enough blood for the future

Air Ambulances UK (AAUK) is the national charity supporting the lifesaving work of the UK’s 21 air ambulance charities, helping them to save even more lives every day. Air ambulance charities deliver advanced pre-hospital critical care to patients who have suffered life-threatening or life-changing injuries or medical emergencies, bringing the Emergency Department directly to the scene.
We are looking for enthusiastic and friendly Fundraising Volunteers to support a series of exciting upcoming events in partnership with national organisations, including a major fundraising week this summer.
About the role
This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a public-facing fundraising initiative, helping to raise awareness and vital funds for air ambulance charities across the UK.
You’ll engage with members of the public in busy locations, helping to highlight the importance of supporting air ambulance charities, which rely almost entirely on donations to continue their vital work.

What will you be doing?
As a Fundraising Volunteer, you may be involved in:
• Speaking to members of the public about the work of air ambulance charities
• Encouraging donations (including cashless options)
• Handing out leaflets and raising awareness
• Supporting fun, simple engagement activities (e.g. games, quizzes, giveaways)
• Helping deliver family-friendly activities
• Creating a welcoming, positive presence at events
• Representing AAUK and the wider air ambulance sector
• Most importantly – having fun while supporting a life-saving cause
What are we looking for?
We are looking for people who are:
• Friendly, approachable and confident speaking to the public
• Passionate about supporting charitable causes
• Reliable and able to work as part of a team
• Proactive and enthusiastic
• Happy to get involved in a variety of activities
No previous volunteering or fundraising experience is required – just a positive attitude!

Time commitment
Our initial campaign will run from 1st – 8th August, with volunteer shifts available across multiple locations.

In 1925, Lon Chaney terrified audiences with his signature ghoulish make-up as the murderous and mysterious Phantom, sparking the flame for endless adaptations, countless pop culture references, and a hit West End musical. Yet another adaptation is rumoured to be in production, with even Guillermo del Toro throwing his name in the hat following his 2025 film of that other misunderstood Universal Monster, Frankenstein.

But what is it about the story of an angry incel living in the bowels of the Paris Opera House that has kept public interest going for over a hundred years?

In this 3-hour session, we’ll dive into the origins of the story, tracking through time as the Phantom develops from genius madman to romantic Byronic hero, to vicious killer and back again.

Adaptations covered include Andrew Lloyd Webber, Joel Schumacher, Dario Argento, Brian de Palma and Terence Fisher to name just a few.

Fancy Volunteering during the summer and helping children with Activities

Children from the ages of 4 until 11 can join us for a week of fun on Buryfield, Great Missenden, each day from 10:00 - 15:30.

They will be involved in sports, craft and Bible teaching throughout the day. We also run an adult and toddler morning session called 'Toddler Lighthouse' for our youngest attendees (no pre-registration is required).

Description:

More than just a cult teen drama, Buffy the Vampire Slayer has become one of the most studied television series of all time, praised for its rich layers of meaning and its lasting influence on the medium.

This three-hour course explores how Buffy transformed television storytelling. We’ll examine how the series draws on classic narrative structures like the hero’s journey, while using monsters as metaphors for adolescence, identity, and growing up. We’ll also explore its feminist legacy, celebrating its groundbreaking portrayal of female power, while considering how this reads through a more complex modern lens.

We’ll also look at how Buffy redefined what television could achieve: blending horror, fantasy, comedy, and soap opera into something entirely new, and pioneering long-form storytelling that shaped the future of TV.

Across the session, we’ll explore the creation of the show and take a closer look at key iconic episodes, examining how Buffy plays with format, genre, and mythology to create a piece of television history that changed everything.

Description:

For forty years, Studio Ghibli has created some of the most beloved and influential films in world cinema, from My Neighbour Totoro and Princess Mononoke to Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle, and beyond. This course traces the studio’s history from its 1980s beginnings through to Miyazaki’s recent The Boy and the Heron, exploring its recurring themes of ecology, pacifism, gender, childhood, and imagination. Along the way, we will reflect on the artistry, politics, and legacy of Ghibli’s work. The day will include opportunities for open discussion, as we consider how these films continue to inspire audiences and filmmakers around the globe.

The Paramedicine Society have collaborated with the NHS to bring a donation point to BNU.

Why do we need you to give blood?

We need new blood donors from all backgrounds to ensure there is the right blood available for patients who need it.

We need:

4,300 blood donations every day on average to meet the needs of our hospitals
over 140,000 people to donate blood for the first time this year
12,000 new Black heritage donors, to meet the growing demand for ethnically matched blood for sickle cell patients who need regular transfusions to stay alive
more young people aged 17-35 to donate, to ensure we have enough blood for the future
