Vice President Education and Welfare
Describe your role
My role predominantly focuses on improving the Educational and Welfare experience of our members whilst they are studying at Buckinghamshire New University. I work alongside our Representation team within the Students’ Union to voice your opinions about your educational experience with the University, be it constructive or positive practice, as well as working with the Students’ Union Advice Centre to run a variety of campaigns to enhance positive mental health and wellbeing. As a Sabbatical Officer, I also sit on the Union’s Trustee Board to ensure that as a Union we focus on improving the educational experience of all our members.
Why did you run for the role?
I ran for this role as being a student at Bucks I was provided with so many different opportunities that helped me to develop as an individual and give me the confidence to represent my peers through various roles. I felt like there was more that could be done to support the students’ welfare experience in particular, which helped me to strive for this role as I want to make a difference and improve this area of the student experience considering how important it is. I’m so glad to be back for a second year to continue creating the opportunities that we might have missed out on last year.
What are your priorities for the year?
My main priorities for the year are:
To embed our Commitment to Mental Health, which we signed up to with Student Minds last year, to continue to raise the profile of Mental Health and Wellbeing within our agenda through providing a whole Union approach to Mental Health and Wellbeing, as well as challenging the University to make it one of their priorities.
To combat digital poverty by providing more funding to support financial hardship.
Ensure all Students’ Union services are accessible and inclusive.
To continue to raise the profile of students from Uxbridge and Aylesbury campuses and tailor the Students’ Union offer to support them further.
What about when you’re off duty?
I enjoy going shopping and out for brunch with family and friends. I also volunteer for Thames Valley Police as a Cadet Leader for the Wycombe unit.
Something that not many people know about me is that I did Ballet for sixteen years!
