Meet from 7.45pm at our Chiltern Rangers Depot to leave by minibus at 8pm sharp. Depot address is 60 Fennels Road, High Wycombe, HP11 1SL. We will take you to our secret badger watching location and return you back to the depot at 10pm. There is parking in the public pay & display car park outside the depot.
The Walk:
When we meet at the depot Ranger Jack will explain where we are heading and answer any questions you may have. Once we arrive at the badger watching location we will remain silent to ensure the best chance of seeing these elusive creatures. There will be a short walk from where the minibus parks to the viewing area, where we will sit and try to blend in with the surroundings. Once seated we will patiently watch for any Badger activity.
It is not a certainty we will see badgers, but if you follow these pointers we should have the best possible chance of spotting them.
What to Bring:
Wear clothing suitable for the weather and sturdy footwear.
- Many Green colours are great to wear as they will blend with the surroundings best (except for bright greens).
- Dark coloured clothing
- Hooded clothes
- Any hats that match the colours above.
- Scarves or Neck covers.
- Cover as much skin as possible to ensure the best chance of seeing badgers for longer
- Binoculars
- Gloves
Things to avoid wearing if possible:
- Coats and trousers that may make noise when you move. However, If it is raining then please feel free to wear rain coats and waterproof trousers.
- Avoid wearing Bright or Colourful clothing, especially blues and yellows
- Deodorant and artificial fragrances. Badgers best sense is their smell and they will detect us before exitting their setts if you wear unnatural scents.
