Our mission is to 'make life better for students at Bucks' and campaigning for change is a big part of that. We campaign on a range of issues that affect students both on campus and in the wider community.
It’s not all posters and placards, and we aim to make sure that as many students as possible can get involved in campaigns. It's a lot easier to get going in campaigning than you might think - and we have a range of officers and staff who are here to support you in making a positive change for students.
Alongside our student and Union led campaigns, we're here to ensure that you are getting the most out of your academic experience and provide the opportunity to initiate change through our Representation team.
At the forefront of this are Student Reps. We have a network of 200 student reps, providing a credible student voice to feed back to the University. Student reps have the ability to instigate change, minimise miscommunication between staff and students, ensure that assumptions are not made about the student experience and improve their course for future years. Get involved to make change happen! You can be rewarded up to £100 for being a rep, so why not nominate yourself today?
A step up from student rep we have School Officers. School Officers oversee the student reps across several courses in their school and look for common themes across the years and courses. They are required to attend Education Forum to deliver this feedback. There are seven schools at Buckinghamshire New University: Art, Design & Performance, Aviation & Security, Business & Law, Creative & Digital Industries, Health Care & Social Work, Human & Social Sciences, and Nursing, Midwifery & Allied Health.
In addition, the Union has created a network of Executive Officers, who work to ensure underrepresented groups at BNU still have the opportunity to express views and concerns. This is operated by volunteer part-time officer roles: Women, LGBTQ+, BAME, Disabled, Part-Time, Mature, Postgraduate and International.
Finally, leading the Union are our Sabbatical Officers. Elected by you, they are dedicated to improving your student experience at Bucks. They are passionate, hardworking, and ready to get involved in making life better for students at Bucks.
