Overview

Thames Valley Police’s Positive Action & Engagement Team (PAET) invite those from a Black, Asian or Minority-Ethnic background to attend our online careers discovery event - come along and find out more about what a career in policing can offer.

There has never been a better opportunity to join policing. The national Police Officer Uplift programme which aims to recruit an additional 20,000 new officers over the next three years presents a unique, once in a generation chance to positively impact representation within forces across England and Wales. Thames Valley Police (TVP) are keen to seize upon this moment.

Policing has certainly featured heavily in the media over the past year, as we have policed the pandemic and various protests relating to highly emotive social, political and economic issues along with responding to other high profile major incidents.

Some of the media coverage of recent events could prompt people to question whether a career in the police is for them.

The aim of our event is to provide honest information that will inform, inspire and encourage serious consideration of this diverse career. A career which offers the opportunity to make a genuine difference to people lives and our communities, in a way that no other job can. At TVP we believe that difference really can make a difference.

About the Event

During our discovery event, you will hear from the team themselves about their experiences of joining TVP, the reasons why they joined, their career journeys, challenges they have encountered and overcome and how the service has been supportive of them as officers from Black and Asian backgrounds.

You will also hear from a number of specialist teams and departments who will highlight the breadth of opportunities a career in policing can offer. These include:

Roads Policing Unit Incident Response Surveillance

Mounted Policing Unit Neighbourhood Policing CSI (Crims Scene Investigation)

Tactical Dog Unit Armed Response Investigation (including Force CID, Major Crime, Domestic Abuse Investigation Unit)

In addition representatives from our Recruitment and Vetting teams will be on hand to discuss the application process and what you can expect.

So if you have ever been curious but are unsure if it’s for you ... Will I fit in? Will I have the support to progress? Will my personal beliefs and culture be accepted and supported? Do I need to be a certain height or level of fitness?

This is your chance to find out more and ask questions.

About the Positive Action and Engagement Team

The Positive Action and Engagement Team (PAET) is made up of four serving officers; PC Misbah Ali, PC Sylvia Masih-Gill, PC James Morgan and PC Yasser Zubair led by DS Marcia Hardy. The role of the team is to focus on building engagement in our under-represented communities and encourage people from Black, Asian and Minority-Ethnic communities to consider a career in policing. As well as focusing on outreach work in the communities, the team supports applicants through the recruitment process and works to improve retention by supporting BAME individuals already in force with personal and professional development, promotion and progression.
