Join us as a part-time Play Coordinator and MAKE a DIFFERENCE for CHILDREN. We have hours available AFTER SCHOOL and BEFORE SCHOOL on various days between Monday and Friday, during the school term.

We are happy to recruit people who can work any combination of days and times of day on a regular basis.

Location: Carrington Infant School and Carrington Junior School, Flackwell Heath, Buckinghamshire. HP10 9AA

Hours:

  • 14:45 to 18:00 and / or
  • 07:30 to 09:00

Main purpose of the job

To provide care and supervision for children aged 4 to 11 in an out-of-school setting. Tasks include planning and implementing a variety of sports, games, arts and crafts pursuits and other play activities.

Main duties

  • To provide full care and supervision of children, ensuring all their developmental needs are met and that they are given full opportunity to access freely-chosen, safe, creative, age-appropriate play,
  • To undertake any tasks necessary to reach and maintain the highest standards of playwork and to ensure the effective operation of the setting, including direct involvement in the planning and delivering of sports, games and play activities, collection and personal care of children and service of meals.

These are the competencies we are looking for:-

  • Ability to plan and deliver high quality care and a variety of play activities for children of mixed ages and abilities.
  • A caring and sensitive approach to children and ability to communicate clearly with them.
  • Good organisational skills and a good level of personal fitness.
  • Ability to maintain high standards of health and safety and to use equipment and resources cost-effectively.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team and to work flexibly, including attending meetings and training in the evening and on Saturdays.
  • At least 1 year's experience in a playwork capacity of working with groups of children in the appropriate age range for the post.

Qualifications / training (all new staff are required to attend essential training courses as part of their induction programme and every 2 to 3 years, thereafter)

  • A level 2 qualification or above in childcare or playwork is desirable but willingness to complete a childcare or playwork course within the first two years of employment will be considered.
  • Training in safeguarding children within the past 3 years (desirable).
  • A current paediatric first aid certificate (desirable).
  • Training in health and safety within the past 3 years (desirable).
