The Outdoors Project is looking for motivated, energetic individuals to join our team as Instructors.
We are looking for enthusiastic indivuals to join our team:
Assistant Role - this is a great entry-level role for those who enjoy working with children and enjoy being outside to join our After School Club team 2 hours a day during term time.
Instructor Role - is for experienced Childcare/Activity Leaders to join our After School Club team 2 hours a day during term time. The role would suit someone with experience working with Primary school children - in a school or an outdoors/sports/activities setting.
Initially, new recruits can expect to be given 1-2 days per week.
ADDITIONAL WORK/HOURS: We also have further opportunities to work at weekend birthday parties & school holiday clubs.

Our team come from a variety of backgrounds: teachers, teaching assistants, creative industries, circus performers, university students, outdoors activities instructors, & we have some previous club attendees who came to clubs age 9, now working with us age 18! We embrace the variety of skills our team bring. These skill sets are complimented & updated by both our in house training & 3rd party courses.
The Outdoors Project run Holiday Clubs and After School Clubs for children age 5-11, 100% outdoors all year around. Our mission is to encourage kids to spend quality time outdoors and gain all the benefits from doing so! Fresh air, nature, exercise, developing friendships, engaging in “wild time”, exploring creativity & imagination, learning new skills and above all having lots of FUN !!
We are looking for both experienced Childcare/Activity Leaders and enthusiastic Assistants to join our After School Club team to bring to life The Outdoors Project ethos. We are looking for people who are fun and engaging to give children and parents confidence in the fact that every element of their time with us is being delivered with enthusiasm and care.
Every club follows a clear structure, Leaders and Assistants will deliver a safe and fun day of activities in line with The Outdoors Project training, often days will be based on a popular children’s theme such as Harry Potter, Pokémon, Roald Dahl, Minecraft and activities include: Bush Craft, Survival Skills, Team Games, Nerf and Nature Craft.
REQUIREMENTS: A current DBS check or access to the update service is desirable but for the right candidate, we can apply for one on your behalf.
Safeguarding & Level 3 First Aid Qualification are desirable but can be arranged if you do not yet have them.
You will need to be aware of Child safeguarding processes and procedures. Full training will be given.
The ability to work well within a team, communicate, be on time and reliable is essential.
The ideal candidate will have experience of working with Primary School children.
Our schools are in different areas in the following postcodes: SL7 and HP9. Candidates will need to be able to travel to their assigned school.
Leaders are responsible for leading the activity and are responsible for sign in/out with an Assistant responsible for helping with supervision of the group. The children book on for a term of activities in advance. Maximum 30 children per group.

REQUIREMENTS:
- We are looking for people who are fun and engaging to give children and parents confidence in the fact that every element of their time with us is being delivered with enthusiasm and care.
- All candidates will need a DBS qualification to work within this job role. This can be obtained on behalf of the successful candidate.
- Preferred by not essential: A teaching qualification, childcare qualification, teaching assisting qualification or experience of and interest in / working towards.
- Desirable but not essential - Previous experience working with Primary age children, Buschraft/Forest School level 3, Outdoors activity leadership.
- Our in-house training program will show you everything you need to know to run the most FUN outdoors sessions.
- A love of the outdoors - our sessions are 100% outdoors year around.
- The ability to work well within a team, follow all safety policies and procedures, communicate, be on time and reliable is essential.
- Enthusiasm, positivity & a FUN attitude.
Hours: After school clubs run approximately during 2.30 - 4.30 from Monday-Friday.
Recruitment process: Telephone interview and if successful we will invite you to attend a trial/training session.
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT WORKING FOR THE OUTDOORS PROJECT
Life as an Outdoors Instructor is good fun! The sessions are filled with energy, laughs and all the positive benefits of time spent outside in green spaces.
Here’s some of the things to expect in your role:
Energetic children! We run clubs for 5 to 11 year olds and they sure do have energy to burn. That feeling of freedom of being outside and being able to play is exciting so be prepared to run, hide, tag and play too!
Learning New Skills – Our experienced leaders know their stuff about the outdoors and working with kids. They’re passionate about what they do and love to teach all sorts of outdoors skills, so be prepared to up your outdoors game by working with these guys. You’ll be building fires, whittling wands and crafting shelters in no time!
Part of a Community – We really value our staff, they’re key to the experience we offer and it’s important to us we have a happy and strong team. We only work with people who we think are a great fit, who will give and get a lot from the experience. Apart from having good fun on site we love to socialise off site to build our adventurous team. You’ll work with loads of skilled people in the industry, making contacts and friends.
Building a connection with young people – you’ll work with a broad range of ages from children, to teenagers to work experience young adults. You’ll see the same faces weekly and build a healthy leader-to-child relationship which is really rewarding. Helping children achieve their goals, learn something new or just be silly and have fun daily is a positive experience in our books.
Training – We train our staff regularly on the activities we offer as well as other key skills such as first aid, child behaviour and safeguarding. Our managers and leaders will mentor you where they can to develop your skills and we also have a huge amount of supporting manuals to help you feel confident in your role working with children.
Healthy Lifestyle – Our days are busy with plenty of activities lined up for the kids to enjoy, so you will be active all day in green spaces, whittling, playing, crafting, building, having nerf battles – the works! When the days end it really feels like a good day at work. You return home tired, muddy and smiling.
