Alcohol Awareness Week

Whether it’s ending the long week with a beer with your mates or popping that bottle of prosecco after some rather great news, many of like to treat ourselves to our favourite bevs and we won’t deny that we find it hard to resists a nice G&T on a Friday. But what’s the difference between a casual drink and drinking too much? How much is too much?

This year’s theme for Alcohol Awareness Week is ‘Alcohol and relationships’. Whilst we know there’s nothing wrong with a celebratory glass or two, too much alcohol can have a detrimental effect on your health, wellbeing, and relationships.

Are you or your friends drinking too much?

Excessive drinking doesn’t only affect the person who’s drinking, but it can have a serious impact on friends and family too. It’s safest not to drink more than 14 units over a week, spread over three or more days and with a few days off. You can give yourself an alcohol-audit by checking out how healthy your drinking is with this quick quiz.

Why not use the unit calculator to find out how many units are in your favourite drinks?

Some common sign to look out for that you or your friends might be drinking too much:

  • Drinking everyday
  • Experiencing gaps in memory
  • Neglecting responsibilities
  • Always hungover in the morning
  • Lying about alcohol use
