On Saturday 7 June, 4 BNU students went to Oxford to volunteer at Oxford Pride, based in South Park, Oxford. The students had different roles assigned to them such as guiding members of the public to the entrance of Pride or Standing at the entrances helping to let the public into the park. The students also helped with general volunteering when they had finished their assigned job by walking around and making sure people were okay, litter picking or by walking around and selling raffle tickets.
There was a great turnout at the event and it had many different volunteers all working together to make it run smoothly. The volunteers also had the chance to explore the different stands that were set up. Despite the terrbible weather, the day still turned out well, with amazing food and many amazing performances held on the main stage. Some examples of performers were Rusty Kate the host, Danny Beard, the Winner of RuPaul's drag Race UK season 4, Pinkish and Channy Thompson.
It was great to see how events such as Pride can bring people together and create a community filled with support, love and acceptance. The turnout showed how important events like Pride are to show acceptance of all members of the LGBTQIA+ and how important it is to have a space and events where you can express yourself completely without facing any form of judgement.
