BUCS is back

It’s the week we’ve all been waiting for, a Wednesday full of BUCS Fixtures.

We’ve kicked off the competitive sports year with a bang, sending out nine teams to represent Buckinghamshire New University across the South East Region in the British Universities and College Sports (BUCS) league. After an incredible day we’ve got some great results to share with you.

Kicking off the day with the first home fixture of the year, Men’s Badminton played Anglia Ruskin University, a rather experienced team. Unfortunately, the first two singles games from our very own Harry Crowson and Jamie Thom didn’t go our way and we faired no better with the doubles from Tom Shirley and Eric Man who lost along with David Howard and Calvin Cheong. The first win of the game came from Jamie Thom winning his next singles game 14-21 21-15 and 21-18! The overall match may have been a 7-1 loss but the season looks promising for Bucks Badminton.

All four Bucks Men’s Football teams played yesterday with 1st 2nd and 4th at home, our 3rd team travelling away to Wembley. Kicking off the day was the 2nd team Captained by Mo Yasin, an unbelievable home score of 11-0 against Middlesex University with 5 of the 11 goals coming from first year James Saxby/

The 1st team led by Jethro Odumosu brought home a 3-2 win against King's College Men's 3 (GKT). Our fantastic goal scorers were Sol Goodby, Osei Hayford and Yuri Cardoso.

Our 3rd and 4th teams didn't manage to bring home a win this week with the thirds playing UCFB Men's 7 and the fourths playing Regent's Men's 1.

Netball's 1st team travelled all the way to Essex this week with a nearly all-new team. The girls played a nail-biting game drawing 35-35 in the third quarter. The last quarter of the game lead to an unlucky 49-48 loss with Essex scoring on the final whistle.

The 2nd team Netball girls however played their first game on home ground and Captain Yasmin Mather led the new team to a brilliant victory. Absolutely smashing Brunel 6’s 52-6 with Brunel only managing to score in the 3rd & 4th quarter.

The fixture of the day went to Bucks Men’s Rugby who played our Varsity rivals Roehampton away. Captain Josh Fake sent out a majority Fresher line-up who showed potential for a successful season ahead. There were a few stand out performances from Jimmy Amagoua and Ratu Nailatikau – although the boys couldn’t bring home a win losing 12-44 they know what to expect for their home game and our Varisty at home at the end of the year.

The final fixture of the day was another home game with Women’s Volleyball playing Sussex Women’s 1’s – with seven players the girls gave it everything they had for the first game of the season, but unfortunately Sussex powered through to take a 3-0 win.

Congratulations to all of the Player of the Matches this week:
