Officer Monthly Update August:
Welcome back to the second update of my 25/26 elected officer term. Each month, I will be aiming to provide an update about what I have been up to that month.
August has seen continued training and introductions with different departments and organisations all with a focus on developing relationships, skills, and knowledge for the year ahead. We’ve benefited from an all-day in-person session from Wonkhe (an organisation who work within the higher education sector sharing information and knowledge about all the goings on in Higher Education) as well as other online training too!
I continue to have discussions regarding the quiet space at Uxbridge and whilst there are lots of moving parts and progress is being made. I am awaiting a few final key details before I can share more fully but watch this space. This also goes for the breastfeeding room on campus, after much discussion this space is also moving and would be seeing a revamp too! Keep your eyes peeled for updates and around the campus.
“Rusty’s Retreat” is taking root and reaching new heights. The community garden is coming together nicely with plants and fencing arriving, and seating being set up too! There is still much to take root in the garden, but exciting things are sprouting! We also have the opportunity to paint this space too, so if you are interested in making your mark, or just wanted to get stuck in with the garden itself, get in touch volunteering@bnu.ac.uk or bethany.jackson@bnu.ac.uk to learn how.
Using my areas of focus to guide the direction I aim to move in this year, I have been having conversations to put plans in place and work to achieve these. We have plans for World Mental Health Day (10th October), meetings to develop support and guidance available, continued discussion around campus facilities with progress being made, and much more. Be sure to check out around the campus, the website, socials, and the newspaper for more updates as they develop!
Activities! On the 28th of August, we held a games afternoon in Pulse Café, where we had MarioKart, Just Dance, Wii Sports, and board games classics like scrabble and trivial pursuit and Uno. This is just one of many events planned for the upcoming year, so be sure to check out the What’s On page for all upcoming activities, there’s so much to be involved in!
I will be posting a short version of these updates on my Instagram, alongside any quick updates. As always, if you need anything please reach out.
Until next month,
Bethany
