Fit from home

We are all getting used to new ways of working and studying, using online communication methods perhaps more than ever before. With our movements outside the home significantly limited (for very good reasons) and our options for exercise therefore constrained too, the Gateway Gym is making use of these same communication tools to bring exercise to you. This is free for all students, not just Gateway Gym members.

Gateway Gym Live!

From Monday 6 April we are asking you to let us into your homes to deliver a programme of 30 minute live-streamed exercise sessions.

Fridays at Noon

PILATES with Alison

Saturdays at 10:30

The sessions will be delivered to you through the Zoom digital conferencing platform which you can download here. To take part, simply email the following details to

  1. the class you wish to attend
  2. your first name and surname
  3. your Bucks Card number

We will then send you an email invite to the 'meeting' (this is what each session is called on Zoom). The email includes a link which you should click a minute or so before the session is scheduled to start.

In case you'd rather not be seen

Just to reassure those who might not want to be seen whilst taking part in a session, you have the ability to easily turn off your camera so the instructor and the other participants are unable to see you. We want you to be as comfortable as possible if you take part and so this is not a problem whatsoever. As a matter of fact, many people who have taken part so far have chosen to switch off their camera and it has been absolutely fine.

And finally...

We really do hope you might give these sessions a go and that you enjoy any you try. Please make sure you let us have any feedback. In the meantime, please stay safe and we look forward to seeing you as soon as possible.

The Fitness Team

Prior to taking part in any of the sessions please read the following information:-

As with all types of exercise, when taking part in live-streamed sessions you need to use your common sense. Your health is your responsibility. During exercise there exists the remote possibility of adverse changes including, but not limited to, abnormal blood pressure, fainting, dizziness, disorders of heart rhythm, and in very rare instances heart attack, stroke, or even death. There also exists the risk of bodily injury including, but not limited to, injuries to the muscles, ligaments, tendons, and joints of the body. To reduce the likelihood of injury please make sure that the space around you is free of obstacles such as furniture and that the floor is not slippy. Ideally you will have a space of at least four squared metres. Make sure you have sufficient heating, lighting, ventilation and hydration. Please also exercise within your own abilities and stop exercising immediately if you feel faint, dizzy or nauseous. If you know of any reason why it might be prudent to check with your doctor before taking part in exercise then it is strongly advised that you do so and that you follow any advice that they might give. By performing any fitness exercises without close supervision (it is likely that the instructor will have a limited ability to observe you clearly) you do so at your own risk. Neither the session instructor nor The Buckinghamshire New University will be responsible or liable for any injury or harm you sustain as a result of taking part in our programme of live-streamed exercise sessions.
