Give it a go fortnight

Give it a Go fortnight is running from Sunday 3 October until Saturday 16 October and it allows you to test out a variety of volunteering opportunities, recreational activities, sport and societies at both Uxbridge and High Wycombe campuses.

Give it a Go is a jam-packed fortnight full of fun activities provided all for free courtesy of the Big Deal. If you are still finding your feet at University and not sure what extra-curricular activity you wish to do, there is no better way to do this than Give it a Go!

We offer a range of Sport Clubs that compete across the country in the British Universities Colleges Sport (BUCS) competition and with fixtures beginning on Wednesday 13 October, all of our teams are looking for players.

During Give it a Go all training sessions are open to all, so make sure to check out the timetable and head down to the training sessions you are interested in. There are also social media groups for all sports clubs that can be found on their minisites on our website.

Our Sport for Fun programme begins with weekly activities such as Handball, Volleyball, Basketball, Netball and Dodgeball. There is no need to worry if you have never tried any of these before, all our sessions are inclusive of all abilities and our ambassadors will ensure that you are involved and get the most out of the sessions.

We are also running some trips throughout the 2 weeks including a trip to Rush Trampoline Park and Liquid Leisure Aqua Park. Both of these require a £5 deposit which will be refunded once you attend. Some of these events may be sold out already, so make sure to keep your eyes peeled for other uncoming events or sign up to our waiting lists.

Societies are one of the best ways to enhance your University experience. They are a great way to have a varied social life and meet like-minded people. At Bucks, we currently have 28 active societies, including Gaming, Equestrian, Baking, Radio and Star Wars. For a full list visit bucksstudentsunion.org/activities/socs, where you will be able to contact any society you are interested in. The majority of these societies will be holding sessions during Give it a Go week, so why not give something different a go?

If you're looking to give a little back, we have great Volunteering oppourtunities which is another great way to get involved, meet new people and enhance your CV. Throughout Give it a Go there are plenty of volunteering opportunities to get involved with from microvolunteering events such as dog toy making and sustainable hand cream making.

The highlights of Give it a Go fortnight for volunteering are the two Beach Cleans to Bournemouth and Brighton. Spend 2 hours cleaning the beach and then have a couple of hours to yourself exploring the area.

If you are interested in getting involved in any of these opportunities check out the timetable for week 1 below or check out our what's on page for the full range of events.
