The NHS is always looking for new blood donations from all backgrounds to ensure there is the right blood available when needed.
The NHS needs
Our Paramedic Society have organised the NHS to make BNU a Blood Donation Centre. The first UK university to become a regular donation centre.
Blood donation is simple, safe, and takes less than an hour – but the impact can last a lifetime. One donation can save up to three lives. Despite this, blood stocks across the UK regularly run low, and the need for donors is constant. There is no substitute for human blood – it can only come from generous volunteers.
Choosing to donate blood is one of the most selfless acts someone can do. It’s a way of being a Good Samaritan in the most tangible sense – helping people you will likely never meet, during some of the most critical moments of their lives. It reflects compassion, responsibility, and a commitment to looking after one another.
Becoming a donor isn’t just about giving blood; it’s about being part of something bigger. It’s about community, solidarity, and stepping forward when others are in need.
We would love to see as many members of BNU as possible getting involved on Thursday 16 July and supporting this incredible initiative. Together, we can make Bucks not just a place of learning – but a place that actively saves lives.

To coincide with this, we have also organised a ‘What’s Your Blood Type’ event on Tuesday 26 May, to be held in The Atrium from 10am-4pm. Here is what to expect on the day:
"A quick finger prick test allows us to provide a tailored message about their likely blood type, why it’s useful and how often we’d like them to donate. This activity is especially important to identify priority and rare blood types that are more common in Black and ethnic minority communities. We will then book an appointment for the participant to donate blood for the first time."
Let's make a difference together.
