ELECTIONS

This year’s elections were honestly amazing! Huge shoutout to all the candidates. The amount of effort, energy, and time you all put in was incredible, and you really got students involved and engaged throughout the whole week. I am also super grateful and genuinely honoured to have been re-elected as your Students’ Union President for 2026/27. A massive thank you to everyone who voted for me, supported me, and believed in me. It really means a lot. I am so excited for what’s coming next, and I cannot wait for us to achieve even more great things together!

WIFI

I have been having ongoing conversations with our external Wi-Fi provider, Wifinity, to improve the overall service for students. Over April, there will be more door-to-door conversations to hear directly from students about their experiences and any issues they are facing. Looking ahead to the summer, Ekahau surveys will also be carried out. These surveys measure Wi-Fi coverage across all accommodations, basically creating a heat map to show where the signal is strong and where it needs improving, so we can identify and fix any problem areas.

AYLESBURY

Consultations with students in Aylesbury have been ongoing, focusing on individual personal circumstances and any adjustments that may be needed. These conversations are really important in making sure every student’s situation is understood and considered. As reassurance, the Students’ Union is putting student mental wellbeing at the centre of this process. We are working to make sure students feel heard, supported, and not left to navigate these changes alone. We will continue to advocate for the right support, clear communication, and appropriate adjustments so that every student feels confident and looked after during this time.

BLACKBOARD

Bethany and I recently had a meeting to discuss the issues students have been experiencing with Blackboard notifications. The current plan is to start by focusing on the programme-based Organisations that have raised these concerns with us, and this work will be carried out alongside university colleagues. From there, we want to develop clearer guidance and better tools around how Organisations are used, especially for non-teaching and programme-level updates, so that students still get the information they need, without being overwhelmed by too many notifications.

UNIVERSITY COUNCIL

This month, I attended University Council, which was a really good opportunity to highlight both the positives and the challenges students are currently facing. The meeting went well, I was able to raise key issues such as car parking, while also sharing positive feedback, particularly around personal tutoring and the assessment and feedback policy. It was also great to see that the Governors were really proud of the Varsity “threepeat”.

BURSARIES

Conversations are still ongoing to explore the possibility of introducing both an international student bursary and a placement bursary to better support students who need it most. The aim is to help ease financial pressures, particularly for those facing additional costs linked to studying and placements. We will continue to push this forward and share updates as soon as there’s any progress.

UXBRIDGE NEW CAMPUS

I had the privilege of visiting the new campus in Uxbridge and seeing the new spaces firsthand. It is a really unique building, and after meeting with the architects, it is clear that there are some exciting plans and ideas behind the project. As a Students’ Union, the next step will be to make sure students have the opportunity to see these new spaces and share their feedback on what they would like to see. It is important that students help shape the environment they will be using.

CAR PARK

I have been having ongoing conversations about expanding free car parking for students, particularly in Uxbridge, where there is potential to provide around 20 free spaces each day. I have also raised the need for increased provision in High Wycombe due to high demand from students. In addition to this, there is also potential for free parking to be made available at the new campus in Uxbridge. These discussions are still ongoing, and we will continue to push for more accessible and affordable parking options for students.

CHIEF STUDENT EXPERIENCE OFFICER

This month, I met with Libby, our new Chief Student Experience Officer. The meeting went really well and was a great opportunity to start building a positive working relationship. As a Students’ Union, we are looking forward to working closely together to make meaningful improvements to the overall student experience.
