Meningitis

You may have seen recent media reports about cases of meningitis at universities across the UK and the UK Health Security Agency continues to share daily updates on this.  

Meningitis Now have requested we share this information and guidance with you and you can read more about Meningitis on the NHS website here.  

Symptoms can develop quickly and be mistaken for flu, but it can develop quickly so please seek medical advice if you or someone you know has any of the following: 

• High temperature 

• Being sick 

• A headache 

• A rash that does not fade when a glass is rolled over it (but a rash will not always develop) 

• A stiff neck 

• A dislike of bright lights 

• Drowsiness or unresponsiveness 

• Seizures (fits) 

You can speak to your GP or call 111 if you are unsure or head to your closest accident and emergency department. Please also use the University’s Report and Support tool so we can provide you with the appropriate support.  

We understand this may feel concerning, but we want to reassure you that there is currently no need for any additional precautions and if this changes, you will be informed.
