Welcome to my round-up of ‘Seize The Day’, my week-long Epilepsy Awareness campaign! The week has been full of fun, activities, events and education. Did you learn something new?
For this campaign, we have done a mix of activities and events, and a social media campaign. We’ve posted a lot of information on Instagram and posted videos on both Instagram and YouTube.
Epilepsy is an important topic to me personally as I suffer from the condition, but I have found that not very many people know about it, which is why I wanted to raise awareness of the condition.
On Monday, we posted my story with epilepsy on Instagram. I thought it was important for you all to see why epilepsy is important to me and how it affects me. Check out the story on Instagram My Story with Epilepsy. We also held an Arts and Crafts event in the Lounge.
On Tuesday, we posted some frequently asked questions with the answers. This included how epilepsy is diagnosed, how epilepsy affects daily life, how epilepsy is caused, and how epilepsy works. You can find the post on Instagram, Frequently Asked Questions. We also had Workout In TheClub in The Venue.
On Wednesday, the Bucks Students’ Union staff team in High Wycombe, Uxbridge and Nottingham wore purple to celebrate International Epilepsy Day early. We posted ‘Show Off Your Purple’, showing everyone who wore purple for epilepsy awareness. We also posted a video which explains what to do when someone has a seizure, some do’s and don’ts, and information about the phases of a seizure. You can see the video on Instagram or YouTube.
On Thursday, we posted information about International Epilepsy Awareness Day and why it is called ‘Purple Day’. You can see International Epilepsy Awareness Day 2026 information on Instagram. We also held a Movie Night in the Winter Garden to show Zootopia 2. This movie was chosen because it is a newly released movie, but also it is a movie that is epilepsy friendly, so no flashing or strobe lights!
On Friday, we posted some facts about epilepsy. You can find them on Instagram. We also posted a video on how to put someone into the recovery position, which was posted to Instagram and YouTube. For our last event, we held a Cocktail Masterclass in The Lounge.
To end the week, I headed to our Nottingham campus with Bethany. In Nottingham, we spoke to students about epilepsy, sharing facts and resources and held a bracelet-making activity, with the help of the Nottingham staff.
