Student Volunteer Week

The past few weeks have been jammed packed with volunteering opportunities our members have been involved in. With last week being Student Volunteer Week, it was amazing to see our sports clubs and societies give up their time to help make a difference both on and off campus.

Our clubs and societies got stuck in with the community spirit last week as they volunteered across the week with Chiltern Rangers where they helped cut down shrubs and plant trees around High Wycombe. We'd like to give a shout out in particular to Dwayne Wilson, Chair of Men's Basketball, and the Bucks FC team captains Mo and Connor.

The ladies from our Netball club were a little closer to home as they gave up their time on the High Wycombe Campus to lend a hand to the Bucks New Usage initiative. We also hosted a Post Pal session in The Lounge where students were able to drop in and write a letter to children who are ill and in hospital. It was great to see so many students attend and write heart warming letters so we will definitely be putting the event on again soon. Keep an eye on our What’s On page to find out when the next session will be.

The Bucks Men’s Rugby team also gave up their Saturday to help clear the Marlow Rugby Club in preparation for our annual Varsity event on Wednesday 30 March. They were there all afternoon preparing the grounds for the day, so a big shout out to all involved and we know your efforts will pay off when we win the match.

Whilst Sudent Volunteer Week has no come to an end, we still have plenty of volunteering opportunities coming up including our Smile campaign on Monday 21 February to kick off Fairtrade Fortnight. The Smile campaign is an opportunity for students to give a little something back to the local community as they make their way into the local town and hand out smiles and fairtrade breakfast items to early morning commuters to get their day off to a great start.

If you would like to get involved in any of our volunteering opportunities, or you'd like to set up your own, please email volunteering@bucks.ac.uk.
