University Mental Health Day

University Mental Health Day takes place each year in March. This year is it held on Thursday 12th March, with a theme of “Human Connection”. University Mental Health Day takes place to get people talking and keep the conversation about student wellbeing going. It takes place to get people working together to make mental health a priority university-wide!

There are 2.9 million students:

  • 1 in 3 have felt or feel lonely.

  • 24% say “they’re not feeling part of a community” and feel isolated.

  • 70% have felt lonely/isolated in student halls

Connections and relationships are vital for our mental health. These bonds make good times feel brighter but they also help through difficult times. Right now, it is almost easier to isolate than it is to connect and this idea is formed from different areas/aspects like technology, politics, interests and circumstance.

We’re looking at and encourage you to keep building connection both at university and outside university too.

Whether that’s you joining a sports team to play competitively or just for fun. Joining a society to share your likes and interests with others. Taking part in an additional skills workshop or attending a recreational activity or even attending on the nighttime events. It could be having a coffee with your flatmates, or a meal cooked together. It could be a study session in the library. It could be anything.

We want you to head out and find what community means to you.

Ask yourself, what does being part of a community mean to you?
