Over 1,100 students voted for your next Elected Officers, find out the results here
The Union’s annual elections concluded last week, culminating in the election of a brand-new elected officer team for 2025-26. Across elections week, over 1,100 individual members voted in the officer and trustee elections. It’s fantastic to see so many of our members engaging in the Union’s democratic processes.
In our hugely contested Student Trustee election, Adaeze Ubah, Ellie Lee, Ritmary Benny, and Sam Gupta were elected for the next academic year. Adeze, Ellie, Ritamary, and Sam will be responsible for overseeing the governance of the organisation, its finances, and its people - making sure we are in the best possible place to serve our members.
In the Elected Officer elections, before the count, candidates running in multiple elections were asked to choose their preferred role, in the event they won both elections. If they then won their preferred election, they were withdrawn from the other before the second count commenced.

Vice President Achievement and Belonging.
The Union has a series of procedures and rules in place to ensure fairness in elections and a level playing field between candidates. Unfortunately, on the conclusion of the elections, the Union had to investigate a breach of campaign expenditure rules in the Vice President Achievement and Belonging election. After the investigation, it was ruled by the National Union of Students that, in accordance with the rules, the successful candidate in that election was to be excluded. The independent Returning Officer dismissed a subsequent appeal, and a recount was ordered to take place on Wednesday 9th April.
In the recount, votes were transferred from the excluded candidate to the remaining candidates: Abi Hix, Joseph Burrell, and Madhav Jayalal.
In the first round, the quota to be elected was 419, and results were as follows:
- Abi Hix: 214
- Madhav Jayalal: 299
- Joseph Burrell: 307
- RON: 16
Following this round, Abi Hix and RON were eliminated. Their second preferences were then distributed, and the final results were:
- Madhav Jayalal: 363

Therefore...Joseph was duly elected as your Vice President Achievement and Belonging for 2025-26.
