Description:

For forty years, Studio Ghibli has created some of the most beloved and influential films in world cinema, from My Neighbour Totoro and Princess Mononoke to Spirited AwayHowl’s Moving Castle, and beyond. This course traces the studio’s history from its 1980s beginnings through to Miyazaki’s recent The Boy and the Heron, exploring its recurring themes of ecology, pacifism, gender, childhood, and imagination. Along the way, we will reflect on the artistry, politics, and legacy of Ghibli’s work. The day will include opportunities for open discussion, as we consider how these films continue to inspire audiences and filmmakers around the globe.
