The Task:
We will be carrying out scrub management on Sands Bank. We need you lovely volunteers to assist with the scrub bash, raking and a bonfire!
Many people ask us why we are doing this as a scrub-bash can often look destructive. It is an essential conservation task, giving the chalk grassland much needed breathing space so wildflowers can grow providing a welcoming habitat to different species.
Timings (please note these timings are approximate):
10.00: Arrival for safety briefing, please don't be late!
10.15: Work begins
11.30: Tea & coffee break
13.00: Lunch Break - please bring your own
15.00: Work finishes, time to go home!
What to bring:
Please bring your gloves (we will have spares) and dress for the weather and the task.
Long trousers are advisable as there may be ticks and thorny vegetation. We also recommend wearing steel toe capped or sturdy boots rather than trainers.
Wear layers that you can remove if you get hot whilst working. Bring a waterproof as most of our sites have no shelter from the rain.
Please bring plenty of fluids and a packed lunch. We will bring a tea kit and biscuits.
Access: Sands Bank is on a steep slope and may not be suitable for people with limited mobility. Toilets are available.
