It’s that time and it’s the penultimate update of my 25/26 elected officer term. Read on to find a summary of what I’ve got up to this past month.
Areas of focus:
-
Campus Consistency: We’re getting lots of great ideas and suggestions of events and activities at the Aylesbury Campus! Remember you can continue to share your ideas of what you want to see and do by filling out the forms across campus. You can also visit or email me (bethany.jackson@bucks.ac.uk) with your ideas or speak to Student Voice Officer Kerri too! Discussions about parking at Uxbridge are still going strong and we are following up with the relevant teams to update on this too. There’s also lots of work being put together about developing student areas using your suggestions at the Nottingham campus. Keep sharing your ideas! Don’t forget we’ve got a range of activities taking place on campus and you can get involved any time – check out the activities part of the update or head to the what’s on page for more!
-
Mental Health and Wellbeing advocacy: We celebrated Mental Health Awareness Week. Remember to take 5 for you and we’ve got a range of support services on offer to support you. We continue to raise awareness, share resources and encourage conversations around mental health. Did you know getting outside for as little as 5 minutes can really boost your mood and improve your wellbeing?
-
Academic Experience: As always with supporting your academic experience, a reminder about if you are experiencing any issues with any area of your course, reasonable adjustments or the MyBNU app or Blackboard, please keep raising these and keep a log of what is happening, please share as much detail as possible.
I also met with the Artificial Intelligence Working Group to the guidance/support for AI at BNU.
We attended multiple PCMs across the April/May window. PCMs are a great opportunity for the student feedback to be raised directly, discussed and actioned. A huge thank you to the all the reps that collected feedback and took part in these discussions during their meetings but also thank you to all the students who shared feedback. This all works to improve your experience.
We celebrated the student and staff successes at the 17th Annual Union Awards. This was a great night as the awards are always a spectacular event. It is great being able to recognise the great achievements, work, talent and passion that the students and staff have demonstrated across the year. A massive well done to all the winners and all the nominees. You have all worked so incredibly hard and should be proud! You can read up on the winners on the website. A massive well done for everyone involved with putting on the event.
We also held the 2nd Interprofessional Learning event at BNU. On Wednesday 13th May, we hosted The IPL Conference 2026. It was a day filled with a range of opportunities to hear from professionals and experts by experience across the allied health and social work sectors. Attendees were able to engage in interactive sessions, learn new skills, ask questions and network. There was a range of sessions to attended, with 3 sessions running simultaneously across each hour slot. Session topics were: British Sign Language Workshop, Navigating Without Your Senses, “Who Owns Normal?”, RSASS Bystander Intervention, Dealing with Scenarios, From 999 Call to Hospital Handover: A Team-Based Approach to Patient Care, PNA/PMA Restorative Clinical Supervision, Professionalism in the Workplace, Leadership Strategies Across Disciplines, The Importance of a Debrief, Reflection. A huge thank you to staff, students and organisations that planned, organised and ran these sessions. The day rounded off with a guest speaker panel and Q & A opportunity. The panel was formed of individuals from different parts of the allied healthcare sector. The panel spoke about their experiences of IPL within the sector, fields and the workplace. The panel also shared details about how to stand out in the sector, ways to be involved, and what skills to build. They also shared insight about benefits, barriers and challenges of working inter-professionally. Attendees asked questions, which yielded in-depth discussions and answers to support individual development, knowledge and skill acquisition. Thank you to everyone who was involved, whether as an attendee, workshop host or organiser. Thank you. Keep your eyes peeled for the next IPL event at BNU and if you want to be involved, get in touch.
