February has absolytely flown by, but we're so excited to share those exceptional students who have gone above and beyond this month.
Student Rep of the month
Lydia Butler-Hewitt has been a great asset to student representation at the Students’ Union, and even though I don’t have any classes with her she does do a lot for her course and for the environment. She has volunteered a lot on everything as she cares about the environment and people. She has also tried to involve peers from her class to start going to all Students' Union activities. Having spoken to some of her classmates, they are all very happy with her being the student rep.
Volunteer of the month
Liv Ross is a committee member for Women’s hockey and is always the first to volunteer herself for kit collection and driving members of hockey to games and training. Liv got involved in grow your own, dog toy making, anti-anxiety bracelet making, and tote bag designing during Give It A Go Week and has been part of Project Pre-loved in upcycling jewellery. Liv actively encourages members of hockey to get involved and volunteer to help others. Liv is always a support when running activities and she should be proud of the work she has put in.
Society of the month
Tabletop and Gaming Society have had a successful month, making a considerable chunk in their accreditation progress. They got lots of members involved in volunteering during Give It A Go Week with potting strawberries and chilies. They also hosted their first takeover of the year, a 24 hour game-athon, which engaged over 80 people raising just shy of £100. A worthy winner this month.
Club of the month
Netball have achieved several areas of their accreditation this month as we saw the 1st team take fundraising with Pie a Netballer, the 2nd team pushed their comfort zones and took to The Venue stage to perform in Dance’s Takeover, and the whole club got involved during Volunteer Week making dog toys for your RAG charity, Hearing Dogs for Deaf People. Aside from the volunteering and fundraising, Netball 1st team have also won their league this month, going undefeated, meaning they are being promoted a league to the South Eastern Tier 5. They also have reached the cup final, which is being played on Wednesday 8 March at Surrey Sports Park, so do come along and support them.
