September 2020 plans

Bucks Students’ Union in 2020-21

There’s no getting away from the fact that the start of the new year is going to be different from normal, but we are determined that both new and returning students won’t miss a thing in 2020-21. Here’s what we have in store to begin with…

As a student of Bucks New University you are automatically a member of Bucks Students’ Union, widely recognised as one of the best students’ unions in the UK, and thanks to unique initiatives like The Big Deal you can access one of the broadest and most diverse extracurricular programmes in the university sector, completely free of charge.

The Freshers’ programmes are going to be packed. You’ll still get the chance to experience Bucks student life and build the connections you need to really make the most of being part of our community as we reintroduce all the activities you’ve been looking forward to.

Freshers' helpers

We have a team of trained students to help you settle in to Bucks - whether that’s as you move into halls and start to find our way around campus, or if you need support navigating your way through the emerging world of online study. And don’t worry if you aren’t planning to be on campus until later in the year - if you need a campus tour or want an experienced student to show you the ropes, one of our team will be there for you.

Events and entertainment

We can’t wait until social distancing is eased and we can unleash a full programme of free on-campus events for you. When the time is right, we’ll have entertainment seven nights a week from international themed events, club nights and live music to quizzes, film nights and balls - with everything in between.

Until then, we have a regular and diverse programme of online events, mixers and activities to help break the ice, make new friends, and keep you connected with the Bucks community.

Sports and societies

While the start of the playing season might be affected, we’re committed to making sure that there are plenty of opportunities to meet and join your chosen clubs, and to participate in socially distanced, physical and recreational sports and well-being activities. We will be able to deliver a range of activities such as socially distanced dance classes and online yoga and even book some outdoor sessions. As the term progresses, there will be competitions and we hope to host an incredible Varsity before the year is out.

There are a huge range of societies at Bucks. All of which are free of charge to participate in, and we’re working on ways to include you ‘virtually’ while we wait for normal service to resume. Don’t worry, if you have a passion for something, you’ll find like-minded people at Bucks and we’ll connect you so that you can get the most out of your time at Bucks.

As the term unfolds, we hope to be able to quickly re-establish a timetable of extracurricular trips and sessions so you can develop your skills, experience exciting things and meet new people.
