Salary

£100 per published edition of the Bucks Student

Hours

The role will require you to start just before freshers’ and continue through until the last edition is published in May 2018. Flexible hours, but will require at least 12-hours over the 3 week edition schedule in the SU office. Students’ Union

Details

Main duties and responsibilities
• To research and find stories for students to write.
• To review submitted content and decide what should be published.
• To assist the Communications and Marketing Coordinator in planning the newspaper layout and arranging supporting graphics.
• To proof articles for issues such as spelling and grammar, and work with students to achieve the very best from them.
• To chair weekly Newsgroup meetings to ensure the best articles are being written and deadlines are being hit.
• To work alongside the Communications and Marketing team to help promote the newspaper through as many channels as possible.
• To recruit and encourage students to get involved in the newspaper and write for it on a regular basis. This will be achieved by attending freshers’ and re-freshers’ fairs and running other promotional events on campus.

Additional duties
• To be present in Union and University meetings to represent The Bucks Student, as and when required.
• To have the ability to write articles on any given subject.
• To work collaboratively with other media channels eg Rusty’s Radio and Bucks Student TV.

Standards
• To respect the democratic structure of the Students’ Union at all times. The post-holder will be expected to work closely with the elected officers of the Students’ Union. The post-holder will aspire to the highest standards of integrity in respect of the advice provided to officers that must at all times be balanced in nature.
• To abide by the Union’s constitution, and University and Union policies and procedures at all times.
• To set a personal example by observing the Union’s environmental policy while at work.
• To maintain a high level of professionalism when dealing with any issue relating to the paper.
• To be punctual and precise in all forms of communication.
