Safe & Smart: Healthy Relationships and Domestic Abuse Awareness Training
Delivered by Women’s Aid | Tuesday 1 December 2026 at 2:00pm
As Vice President Education & Welfare at Bucks Students’ Union, I’m pleased to announce an upcoming training session delivered by Women’s Aid as part of my year-long Safe & Smart campaign.
My aim with Safe & Smart is to improve student safety, raise awareness of issues affecting our university community and ensure students know where to turn for support. The campaign covers a range of topics, including personal safety, consent, healthy relationships, night-time safety, cyber security, scams, housing safety and placement safety.
This session will be open to both university staff and students, providing an opportunity to develop a better understanding of domestic abuse, recognise the signs of coercive control and learn how to respond safely when someone may need help.
The programme aims to help participants:
- Build healthy, respectful relationships by understanding consent, boundaries and mutual respect.
- Recognise domestic abuse and coercive control, including behaviours that may not always be immediately obvious.
- Understand how to respond and access support, whether seeking help for themselves or supporting someone else.
Initiatives like this can also contribute to the University’s wider safeguarding responsibilities and work relating to Condition E6 of the Office for Students’ regulatory framework, which addresses harassment and sexual misconduct in higher education.
Through Safe & Smart, I want to work collaboratively with specialist organisations, university staff and students to create a safer, more informed and supportive campus environment. I believe education and awareness are essential in helping us recognise harmful behaviours, challenge them appropriately and ensure people know where to seek help.
