In this section

At Bucks, we are passionate about improving people’s knowledge on current green and sustainability issues whilst tackling our most negative impacts. Each year, we complete Green Impact which is an accreditation from NUS tackling our issues and improving awareness on campus. In 2023-24 we received an ‘Excellent' status and would like to continue with this in 2024-25.

Your 2024-25 Green Ambassadors

Each year we recruit 2 green Ambassadors to run campaigns, volunteering and educating the student body.

This year your Green ambassadors are Beau Cooke and Yaovi Steeve Lodina. Beau and Steve are passionate about the environment and want to make the BNU campus's appealing to all.

This year our Green Campaign is waste management. We are promoting the recycling bins on campus including the new food specific waste bins, in Beeches and The Lounge. We have changed the posters in our accomodations to include recycling in the everyday lives of our members. During this week we will be having people encouraging the use of the correct waste in bins and we will be having and external partner Grundon coming in to discuss waste management and win some prizes.

Impact Assessment

Although it’s called Green Impact, it’s not just about planting trees or getting your recycling in order, sustainability is a lot more than that, touching on issues of equality, community, curriculum reform, campaigning and much more. Our vision is that through sustainability initiatives on campus alongside the content of the taught curriculum, students will graduate from higher education being equipped to deal with the global challenges we currently face.

The Impact Assessment was carried out for the start of the academic year and details the Union's most signficant environmental impacts together with a plan as to how we will minimise our impact over the course of the next 12 months. Each year we also ask for your opinion on our sustainability efforts and change. You can download the results of the survey, Impact Assessment, and our SMART goals below

Sustainability at Bucks

United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries - developed and developing - in a global partnership. They recognize that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth – all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests.
