Hi I'm Sam, a second year Film and TV Production student and your Mature Students Executive Officer for 2023-24.

I stood for this role because I believe I can be the voice of my fellow mature students, fighting for us all to have a great experience at university. Juggling a life, a job and children can be a daunting task, so I'd like to be the person who helps us all find that perfect balance.

It means the world to me that I was given this position, I feel like I now have the platform needed to improve my fellow mature students experiences as well as future mature students too.

My campaigns

I'd like to run a weekly activity based in one of our eateries where all my fellow students can meet, chat, eat and mix with one another. It's hard to find another mature student around campus and this would be a great opportunity for us all.

My priorities

My campaign is a work in progress at the moment, but it involves campaigning for greater flexibility on our studies, as you'll all know it's a challenge to juggle so many things, and having that flexibility would enable us to be stress-free and have more time to plan.

I am also working on a campaign for mental health support for mature students. As older adults, we are often overlooked when it comes to mental health support, and I'd like to reaffirm that everyone, including non-mature students, matter and have the support we all need.

I want to achieve what's best for us all. I hope to achieve my goal of making a better future for all of my fellow mature students, creating a better balance, experience and support network.

I have something rather secret I'm working on with another mature student, but that's something for the second semester. But trust me, it's going to be great! (Hint: it involves Yorkshire Tea and plenty of Biscuits)
