Last year, young people asked Youth Concern for support with education, training, and employment (ETE) on 900 separate occasions. Responding to need, we have secured funding to employ a part time Careers Youth Worker for 12 months to develop and deliver an ETE project for Aylesbury Vale’s 13-25 year olds.
Vulnerable young people (including those with adverse childhood experiences, those who lack a positive support network, those who struggle at school and may be at risk of exclusion etc) are at risk of long-term adverse outcomes. This can include not completing school, no or poor qualifications, long-term unemployment, poor mental health and higher risk of unstable accommodation or homelessness.
This project will provide tailored support to 13-25 year olds to help them (back) into education, training or employment. Our Careers Youth Worker will help guide young people to further their employment opportunities through training or education or, for those who are in work, to move beyond zero-hour contracts, secure a contract, or explore changes in career. You will help young people look and apply for work and improve their interview skills. You will record interactions with young people on our database and write occasional (anonymised) case studies.
